About
CALL
Cambridgeshire Alliance of Lifelong Learners ("CALL") is an umbrella organisation to link adult learning groups in Cambridgeshire. It is a ‘not for profit’ organisation.
CALL aims to:
- Support these groups by sharing information between groups in their role of providing courses.
- Provide a means of advertising available courses through this website.
- Maintain a list of available tutors which is in a protected area on this website, available only to the groups.
- Run events such as study days and summer walks. These are included on the site under ‘CALL Events’.
GROUPS
The groups are autonomous each with their own committee and arrange their own courses. When the Greater Cambridgeshire and Greater Peterborough Joint Authority ceased funding WEA branch courses in Cambridgeshire, the branches felt unable to charge the required fees. They were faced with either closing or continuing as independent groups. Some closed, but a majority opted to become independent with CALL as the umbrella organisation.
COURSES
Most groups run courses over the Autumn and Spring terms, and some continue into the Summer term. Courses can vary from collections of single sessions to a ten week course on a specific subject. The sessions are from one and a half to two hours. The objective is to provide courses with first class tutors in a friendly environment.
The available courses can be found by selecting ‘Groups’ and either choosing a group in a suitable area from the list or from the map. As an alternative, use the course finder on the Home page.
